Why most budgets fail before March
Built on bad data
A budget is only as good as the books underneath it. If your actuals are wrong, your forecast is wrong — and you won't know until it's too late.
Stale by month two
Annual budgets built once and never updated. By February, the assumptions are wrong and the plan is useless.
No scenario planning
One plan. No downside case. When something unexpected happens, you're reacting instead of executing a plan you already built.
No ownership
Budgets built by the CFO in isolation — not by the department heads who have to live by them. Nobody believes the numbers.
Three steps to clean financials.
Historical Analysis
We analyze 12–24 months of actuals to identify trends, seasonality, and cost drivers. Your budget is grounded in what's actually happened — not what you hope will happen.
Bottom-Up Build
We build the budget from the ground up — by department, product, channel, or headcount — in collaboration with your team. Every line has an owner and a rationale.
Rolling Forecast & Variance
Monthly forecast updated with actuals, variance analysis with written commentary, and scenario updates when assumptions change. Your plan stays current.
Results that speak for themselves.
Frequently asked questions.
How often do you update the budget and forecast?
We update the rolling forecast every month as part of the close package — actuals replace the prior month's forecast, and we reforecast the remainder of the year based on current trends. The annual budget is built once a year, typically in Q4, and used as the baseline for the rolling model.
What does the budget model look like — is it a spreadsheet or a tool?
We build the model in a format that works for your business — typically a structured Excel or Google Sheets model that connects to your actuals. For clients on QBO or Xero, we can also use the built-in budgeting module. The goal is a model you can actually use, not one that lives in a drawer.
Can you build a forecast for a fundraising round or investor presentation?
Yes — investor-ready financial models are part of our Financial Modeling add-on, which pairs well with budgeting. We build 3-statement models with scenario analysis and assumptions documentation. We've built models for seed, Series A, and growth-stage raises.
